Somanathar, Poundarikapuram, Thanjavur


Linked to the Kasi Viswanathar Temple as its adjunct temple, the Poundarikapuram Somanathar Temple, holds historical and mythological significance. The place is named for the naga poundareekan, and also has a sthala puranam relating to Yama. Built during Kulothunga Chola I’s reign, it features numerous koshta murtis and traces back to the 12th century. Arasaleeswarar, Ozhindhiampattu, Viluppuram


Sage Vamadeva sat Arasu tree here, hoping Siva would appear and bless him. Understanding his plight, the Lord appeared to him as a Swayambhu murti. அரசலீஸ்வரர், ஒழிந்தியம்பட்டு, விழுப்புரம்


சாப விமோசனம் பெற பல சிவாலயங்களில் வழிபாடு செய்த வாமதேவ முனிவர் இங்குள்ள ஒரு அரசு மரத்தடியில் இறைவன் தோன்றி அருள்புரிவார் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். அவருடைய அவல நிலையைப் புரிந்து கொண்ட இறைவன் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியாகத் தோன்றினார். முனிவர் உடனே அருகிலிருந்த ஓடையில் நீராடி லிங்கத்தை உருவாக்கி இறைவனை வேண்டினார். இறைவன் அரசமரத்தில் காணப்பட்டதால் அரசாளீஸ்வரர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். காலப்போக்கில் அந்த லிங்கம் மறைந்து மறந்து போனது. இந்தப் பகுதியை ஆண்ட சாளுக்கிய மன்னன் சத்யவர்த்தனுக்கு குழந்தை இல்லை. இங்கு பூந்தோட்டம் அமைத்து, மூல லிங்கத்தை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து பிரார்த்தனை … Continue reading அரசலீஸ்வரர், ஒழிந்தியம்பட்டு, விழுப்புரம்

பிரம்மபுரீஸ்வரர், திருக்கடையூர், நாகப்பட்டினம்
