Sthala puranam and temple information

There is no sthala puranam for this shrine – which is what it is, as it is not a full-fledged temple today.
The Lingam is called Kubera Lingam by the locals. Usually the Kubera Lingam is located in the Kubera moolai (to the north of the temple, as that is the direction of Kubera, one of the ashta-digpalakas or guardians of the eight directions). But this is not the Kubera Lingam of the Avudaiyar Kovil Atmanathar temple.
The Lingam on the avudai is a lone structure in an enclosure under a tin roof. There is not even a Nandi to keep the Lord company!
