This beautiful late-Chola period temple with Pandya influence, is marked by the long vavvaal-nethi mandapam that takes up the majority of the structural temple’s area. This is reckoned to have been a much larger temple in its heyday, and is a shadow of its former self today. The temple is also part of the Tirumangalam Sivaratri set of 3 temples. Sivalokanathar, Mangudi, Mayiladuthurai


This Chola period temple is dated as being over 1000 years old, and is located in the village of Mangudi, which itself has some very interesting stories with regard to its etymology. What would have been an imposing temple in the late Chola period is, today, in a pathetic state of repair and structural failing.
