Deepavali is associated with various stories. In the north, it celebrates the return of Rama to Ayodhya, while in the south, it is the overcoming of Narakasura by Krishna. However, there is a third story, which celebrates Deepavali as a day of worship for wealth, and that happens here at Sivapuram near Kumbakonam, where the entire ground is said to be full of Siva Lingams. In addition to the unique icongraphic depictions, the story here is about Kubera being cursed by Nandi for having spoken favourably of his brother Ravana.
