Sthala puranam and temple information

This small and nondescript temple for Vishnu as Lakshmi Narayana Perumal is an old Vishnu temple on the outskirts of Thanjavur, near the Thanjapureeswarar temple. It is possible that this was the Perumal temple with the Thanjapureeswarar temple being the corresponding Siva temple, of this village, may centuries ago.
The locals say that according to what they have heard passed down over the generations, this used to be a large temple. Today, the temple only has three shrines – for the moolavar Lakshmi Narayana Perumal, Bala Anjaneyar, and Sakti Vinayakar.
Clearly the shrines have been rebuilt over the years, but the vigrahams inside appear to be quite old. This seems particularly true of Garudazhvar to stands in front of the moolavar, outside the garbhagriham, next to the bali peetham. The intricate design and sculptures on the vimanam are two more reasons to agree that this may well be a rather old temple.
There is a fairly large pond to the north-west of the temple, which serves as the temple’s tank.
From the look of it, and based on what the locals tell us, daily pujas are conducted in this temple.
