Sthala puranam and temple information

The village of Villayavarambal is located 8 km east of Kumbakonam, 2 km south of Tirunageswaram, and 4 km north of Nachiyar Koil. Also known as Ayyavadi, this village has lately become famous for the ancient Maha Pratyankara Devi temple located here.
The village has several other temples, including the Agasteeswarar temple and the Kasi Viswanathar temple, both of which are rarely open. Also in this village is this single-shrine temple for Lord Vishnu as Lakshmi Narayana Perumal.
The street on which the temple is located, can be regarded as the Agraharam of the village, and it would not be amiss to assume that this was perhaps a larger temple once upon a time. Today, the temple is maintained by a Vaishnavite family living in the house that abuts the temple.
There is no known sthala puranam about this temple. However, the temple is said to be over 1000 years old, perhaps from the Chola period.
The doors of the temple open into a corridor, which has a bali peetham and a vigraham of Garuda. Beyond this is the garbhagriham, featuring Vishnu with Lakshmi seated to His left on the lap. Outside the garbhagriham, on the right, is a Hanuman vigraham.
